Legal Notice

Your access to and use of this website is subject to these terms. If you do not agree with one or more of these terms, we ask you not to access or use the site. Limitation of Liability

In no event will ALAS or its volunteers be liable for any damages suffered by you, either directly or indirectly, as a result of the use or inability to use this website or its contents. However, because some jurisdictions do not allow limitations on implied warranties, or limitations of liability for consequential or incidental damages, these limitations may not apply to you.

Legal Services

Through our volunteer legal practitioners, ALAS provides “summary legal advice” to artists and creators of all disciplines within scheduled 30-minute appointments. Advice given is not intended as part of on-going legal service. Although you can make subsequent appointments, an artist cannot expect or be assured that same lawyer who provided advice at a prior session will be the duty counsel at a follow-up appointment, and a different duty counsel will not and cannot have information about the earlier appointment. It is also not always possible or appropriate for duty counsel to provide legal advice – sometimes legal information or direction to resources or other avenues of obtaining legal advice or information, including referrals to artists’ professional organizations or unions or to arts or entertainment industry associations, is the most appropriate guidance to provide.

Availability of Legal Services

The services and information described in this website are available only in jurisdictions where they may be legally provided, and therefore may not be available in all regions of Canada or to residents of other jurisdictions. Please contact ALAS for more information on whether these products and services can be provided in your jurisdiction and for details.
