Join us with lawyer Madeleine Brown for an approachable overview and conversation around video games and the law. From understanding intellectual property rights and protecting your creative works, to navigating independent and employment contractor agreements and working with game publishers, this virtual session is intended to help video game creators better understand their legal rights and responsibilities and to more confidently navigate legal topics relating to the creation and distribution of their work. Bring your questions, as there will also be a Q+A period.
Presented in partnership with Hand Eye Society and CARFAC Ontario, this workshop will help any artist learn to how to navigate legal pitfalls and legally protect themselves in many situations.
About the Speaker
Madeleine Brown is the founder of MCB | Legal Studio. She practices litigation and intellectual property law with a focus on digital media, technology and the creative industries. Before founding mcb, Madeleine practiced at a leading full-service Canadian law firm. Madeleine’s family on her father’s side is Sto:lo, whose traditional territory is the Fraser River Valley in British Columbia. She is passionate about supporting Indigenous creatives in the entertainment industry, with a particular interest in the protection of indigenous traditional knowledge and cultural expressions through Intellectual Property law. Madeleine has a law degree and certificates in Intellectual Property law and Entertainment law from, from Osgoode Hall Law School. When she is not practicing law, Madeleine is likely at a concert, learning a new skill, or exploring Hyrule.
