Interactive Digital Media & The Law: A Roundtable Discussion for Emerging Artists

Toronto’s interactive digital media industry is robust and growing! The ascendance of app developers and video game producers in the job market is exciting and undeniable. Despite booming growth in the industry, competition is fierce. What do emerging app and game developers need to know in order to succeed? What have successful developers done and what pitfalls must be avoided? How do you access government tax credits? What are the legal considerations for producers?

On June 3, 2019, Artists’ Legal Advice Services (ALAS) hosted a panel discussion geared towards indie developers seeking advice from industry experts. The panel was chaired by intellectual property lawyer Catherine Lovrics (Bereskin & Parr LLP), and included the following experienced professionals from different sides the IDM business:

• Catherine Lovrics, Bereskin & Parr LLP

• Matthew Walach, Insert Coin Accounting
• Rob Segal, Get Set Games
