Legal Support Program for Artists in the Live Performing Arts Sector

Artists and Lawyers for the Advancement of Creativity (ALAC) has been awarded funding through the Canada Performing Arts Workers Resilience Fund (CPAWRF), provided by Canadian Heritage and the Government of Canada.  The funding will be used to develop and facilitate impactful short-term programming intended to assist artists in the live performing arts sector with immediate legal issues and questions they are facing.

The program activities will include:

  • Operating a free legal clinic providing summary legal advice to artists in the live performing arts sector
  • Partnering with arts organizations in the community to develop webinars and resources addressing common legal issues faced by artists in the sector
  • Conducting focused outreach to raise awareness around the available legal services, and to ensure that these resources are accessible to diverse artists across the province

The program will be carried out now until the end of March, 2023.

For Live Performing Artists

The program is open to all independent and self-employed artists in the live performing arts sector (for example: live musicians, actors, dancers, directors, designers, etc.).  If you would like to request a legal clinic appointment through this program, please fill out an intake form here and specify that you are a performing arts worker, or reach out directly to paws@alasontario.ca for additional information and support.

For Arts Organizations

If you are from an arts organization serving artists in the live performing arts sector and are interested in discussing the legal issues facing your members and/or if you are interested in collaborating on the development and facilitation of a legal education event or resource to benefit the sector, please reach out to us at paws@alasontario.ca.
