Toronto’s interactive digital media industry is robust and growing! The ascendance of app developers and video game producers in the job market is exciting and undeniable.

Despite booming growth in the industry, competition is fierce. What do emerging app and game developers need to know in order to succeed? What have successful developers done and what pitfalls must be avoided? How do you access government tax credits? What are the legal considerations for producers?

Have all your questions answered! On June 3, 2019, Artists’ Legal Advice Services (ALAS) is pleased to present “Interactive Digital Media & The Law: A Roundtable Discussion for Emerging Artists”. This event is a panel discussion chaired by intellectual property lawyer Catherine Lovrics (Bereskin & Parr LLP). The event is geared toward indie developers seeking advice from industry experts.

ALAS has invited a panel of experienced professionals who represent different aspects the IDM business to share their thoughts, expert advice and experiences with you. Our panel will include:

Legal Intersections is a four-part series addressing legal issues of importance to artists, designers, and cultural workers. The series is presented in collaboration with the Artists’ Legal Advice Services, the Centre for Emerging Artists and Designers at OCAD University, and the Edward P. Taylor Library & Archives at the Art Gallery of Ontario. On April 3rd, 2019, ALAS presented Legal Intersections: Copyright & Fair Dealing, a discussion of how copyright law and fair dealing provisions affect your creative practice, led by Max Rothschild, Associate at Bereskin & Parr LLP, and Mansa Chintoh, Director, Business & Legal Affairs at Entertainment One.
